ABOUT ME
Professor Junghyun Kim is internationally known for his research in pathology and phamacology, particularly in the pathogenesis of diabetic complications and novel drug discovery using natural products. His research efforts established the role of advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs) in the progression of various chronic diseases This research has led to the development and testing of several drugs that have progressed to clinical trials in diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration.
With a network of local, national and international collaborative partners, Professor Junghyun Kim has pioneered the concept of anti-glycation therapy. This has revealed a novel therapeutic approach for treating diabetic retinopathy and other glycation-related diseases.
Ongoing research is identifying the unique role of glycation products in oral tissues and salivary gland. His research team consists of several PhD students and post-docs conducting several ongoing projects involving multiple funding streams and local/national/international collaborators:
The role of glycation end products in age-related oral diseases.
Understanding dysfunction of salivary gland in diabetes.
The development of new drug candidate against diabetic complications.
